Small Mammals in Managed Woodlands:
Tools for Family Forestland Owners
Oregon and Washington’s forests teem with a wide variety of small mammals, all
vital parts of our healthy ecosystem. Although rarely seen, once you know what to
look for, signs of their presence are virtually everywhere. These small mammals provide a variety of valuable ecosystem benefits, including seed movement and soil aeration, and enhancement of forest productivity through dispersal of beneficial mycorrhizal fungi.
